Duns is Done
It is actually happening – the federal government starts the transition away from using Dun & Bradstreet as their provider for unique identifier numbers this summer. The new vendor will be Ernst and Young, who, by December 2020 will be providing entities with their unique identifier number which will be used for dealing with the federal government.
What does this mean to you?
If you are currently registered in SAM, you will notice over time that you have been assigned a new UEI (unique entity identifier) automatically. Eventually, new suppliers will receive their identifier number when they register in SAM – eliminating the two-step process as it is now.
What do you need to do?
Nothing really. Just be aware of the changes and understand which federal agencies are switching over when.
Where can you learn more?
The GSA is the oversight agency for this change. You can see a training video here as well as check out the new beta.SAM.gov site that is coming soon.
